From the Desk of the Honorary Secretary
At Disha for Cancer, our journey began with a simple yet powerful belief — that awareness can conquer fear.
Founded by Dr. Agnimita Giri Sarkar, a paediatrician with a heart devoted to service, Disha has become a movement of compassion, courage, and creativity.
Through performing arts, community outreach, and emotional rehabilitation, Dr. Sarkar and her team of “cancer winners” have built a platform where every survivor’s story becomes a source of strength and inspiration for others.
This section brings you a message of hope and direction from our Honorary Secretary, as she shares her thoughts on breaking stigmas, spreading awareness, and shaping a future free of fear and misconception.
“Ei akashay (universe) amar mukti (freedom from fear) aaloy aaloy (from the darkness of ignorance to the lights of knowledge)”

Friends,
The word cancer brings fear in our mind. Though it is projected as an ultimate killer, the facts speak differently. The cure rate of most cancers approach 90% if they are detected at an early stage. The most heart warming news is the fact that after completion of treatment most individuals should revert back to complete normal physical and mental health. What hinders this is the mental blockade of the individuals and the society.

Disha was formed with the sole idea to break the mental barriers of the society. Our members, all examples of brave winners of this stigmatous disease, could re-invent a new purpose of life i.e to advertise through “performing atrs” the complete physical and mental curability from this disease.

I am express my gratitude to my husband DR Diptendra K Sarkar, my friends Mr Gautam Halder, Mrs Dyuti Ghosh Halder, Mr Pronob Roy and Mrs Rita Roy for inspiring me to take up this challenge.

I am overwhelmed by the support of all the members of Disha for believing in this philosophy and taking Disha from a toddler to growing child.

I welcome you all to be part of this revolution and give appropriate direction( Disha) to these mis-conceived disease.

~ Dr. Agnimita Giri Sarkar
